Standard: ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 90.4-2022
Energy Standard for Data Centers

AI-driven workloads have fundamentally changed the energy calculus for data centers. Power density is rising, cooling infrastructure is under strain, and operators face increasing pressure — from hyperscalers, regulators, and their own boards — to demonstrate efficiency. A facility running at PUE 1.8 when 1.4 is achievable is carrying a cost that compounds every month.

Coriho Energy provides independent energy assessments structured around ASHRAE Standard 90.4-2022 — the primary energy standard for data centers. We evaluate your facility against the two core efficiency metrics Standard 90.4 defines: Mechanical Load Component (MLC) and Electrical Loss Component (ELC).

Assessment levels

Level 1 — Walk-Through Assessment.
Metered power and cooling data review. Site walkthrough of mechanical and electrical infrastructure. PUE calculation with component breakdown. Identification of the highest-impact efficiency gaps against Standard 90.4 benchmarks.

Level 2 — Energy Survey and Analysis.
Detailed assessment of cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chilled water, liquid cooling, airflow management), power chain (UPS, PDU, switchgear), and IT infrastructure utilization. MLC and ELC calculated and benchmarked. Prioritized EEMs with energy cost quantification and implementation complexity rating.

What you receive

1) PUE benchmarking against ASHRAE 90.4-2022 efficiency reference values.

2) Component-level breakdown of mechanical and electrical efficiency losses.

3) Prioritized Energy Efficiency Measures ranked by savings potential and operational risk.

4) Level 2 includes MLC and ELC calculations with gap analysis against Standard 90.4 maximum allowable values.

5) Written report reviewed by a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Data Center Energy Professional (DCEP) .

You leave with a PUE improvement roadmap grounded in Standard 90.4 — and a structured, engineering-grounded basis for evaluating your efficiency options and prioritizing next steps.

Engagements are scoped before they begin. You will know what the assessment covers, what it costs, and what you will receive — before we start.
